FAQ

(Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: How much does it cost for an extraction?

A: There are many different types of extractions. The doctor will need to see you in order to determine what type of extraction is needed

Q: Will my treatment hurt?

A: Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible. If a procedure is anticipated to hurt, you will be given a local anesthetic to numb the area.

Q: Does local anesthetic hurt?

A: Dr. Maaskant gives the local anesthetic very slowly, which makes it most comfortable for you.

Q: Do you do tooth colored fillings?

A: Yes. Dr. Maaskant often allows patients to choose between tooth colored and silver fillings

Q: Do you do silver fillings?

A: Yes. We find that silver fillings give the best long term result for patients. We have tooth colored fillings if you prefer.

Q: Do you do fluoride?

A: We typically only recommend fluoride treatments for children, or specific issues that can be helped with a fluoride treatment.

We understand individual preferences and respect your decision if you decline fluoride treatments.

Q: How long will my appointment be?

A: New patient appointments typically take an hour or more. Cleaning and checkup appointments typically range from 30 minutes to an hour.

Treatment appointment lengths vary greatly, depending on the treatment needs.

Q: How many visits will my treatment take?

A: For new patients, we typically clean teeth on the same day, unless you are coming in for an emergency.

When you come in for emergency treatment, we focus on that, and typically schedule you to return for a comprehensive exam , x-rays, and cleaning.

Q: Do I need x-rays? Are they safe?

A: In order to have a complete and accurate diagnosis, the doctor requires x-rays.

We adhere to the standard “as low as reasonably achievable” when it comes to taking x-rays.

The number and frequency of x-rays is determined based on individual need.

Q: Do you have a payment plan?

A: We require payment in full prior to beginning treatment.

Q: How do you clean your instruments and equipment?

A: All work surfaces are cleaned and disinfected with a broad-spectrum disinfectant.

Additionally, equipment that may receive splatter, or that requires touching during procedures, is covered with clean plastic.

Our instruments go through a cleaning and sterilization process, in which they are cleaned with soap and water, then run through an ultrasonic

machine with a surfactant in order to remove microscopic debris, then rinsed.

Finally, they are sterilized. Instruments that cannot be heated are cold sterilized with an approved cold sterilization liquid for 24 hours.

Instruments that can be heated are run through heat sterilization according to the equipment's’ recommendations.

Our processes are tested routinely to make sure that they are working correctly.
